  • The Exorcist is an American horror film directed by William Friedkin, released in 1973.

    This is the film adaptation of the 1971 novel of the same name written by William Peter Blatty. This book, inspired by a real case of exorcism in 1949, tells the story of a little girl, Regan McNeil, possessed by a demon, and the exorcists Lankester Merrin and Damien Karras who try to exorcise her.

    Twelve-year-old Regan suffers from disturbing behavioral problems. After numerous medical examinations, her mother Chris MacNeil seeks the help of a young psychiatrist, Father Karras, who tells her that the young girl is possessed by the devil.
